Mentorship Program for Resource Teachers and Case Managers at SJASD
Our goal is to build confidence, consistency, and shared understanding in inclusive programming across schools by supporting resource teachers and case managers in strengthening service delivery, collaborative planning, and individualized programming.
1
Purpose
This mentorship program is designed to strengthen inclusive practice across SJASD by creating a shared understanding of service delivery, case management, and individualized programming. The goal is for resource teachers and case managers to feel supported, confident, and consistent in their work, while building stronger connections across schools.
2
Program Structure
The program includes monthly virtual meetings, in-person learning sessions, and protected release time throughout the year. The structure is designed to support practical problem-solving, reflection, and collaboration around real school-based work.
Why This Program Matters
The mentorship program is intended to be clear, supportive, and practical. It is designed to strengthen day-to-day practice across schools so that resource teachers and case managers feel better equipped to respond to complex student needs. It also supports divisional capacity building by creating opportunities to share effective practices, develop common approaches, and promote a stronger level of consistency in service delivery across SJASD.
Through this program, participants will have opportunities to build confidence in their role, strengthen collaborative planning, and learn alongside colleagues facing similar challenges. The intention is not only to support individual staff members, but also to strengthen the collective work of school teams across the division.
What Participants May Gain:
  • More confidence in navigating complex student needs
  • Greater consistency in planning, documentation, and service delivery
  • Practical strategies that can be applied right away
  • Dedicated time for reflection, shared problem-solving, and professional dialogue
  • A stronger sense of connection with colleagues across schools and grade levels
How the Program Will Work - Phase 1
Phase 1 will follow a year-long cycle running from October to June. The structure is designed to be manageable, practical, and connected to the realities of school-based work.
1
Spring/Summer 2026 – Matching and Preparation
Mentors and mentees will be identified and matched before the school year is fully underway so that relationships, expectations, and goals can be established early.
2
October to June – Monthly Virtual Support
One virtual meeting each month will help keep the group connected and focused. These sessions will provide regular opportunities for reflection, questions, case discussion, and shared learning.
3
Throughout the Year: In-Person Learning and Release Time
Four in-person sessions and two release days will provide time for deeper collaboration, applied planning, and practical problem-solving that is often difficult to do during a regular school day.
4
School-Based and Practical Focus
All conversations will be grounded in the realities of school teams and may include topics such as collaborative planning, individualized programming, behaviour and regulation support, documentation, service delivery, and transitions. The focus will remain on work that is directly relevant to participants’ day-to-day responsibilities.
What School Teams Can Expect
This program is designed to strengthen the work of whole school teams, not just individual participants. As resource teachers and case managers grow in confidence and consistency, schools may see:
More consistent case management and planning across classrooms and grades
Stronger collaboration between resource staff, classroom teachers, and clinicians
Clearer, more coordinated support for students with complex learning or behavioural needs
Better continuity during transitions across grades or schools
How School Teams Can Support the Program
School teams can support the success of the mentorship program by encouraging open collaboration, making time for shared planning and follow-through, and viewing the program as part of broader whole-school capacity building.

Important to Know: This mentorship program is supportive, reflective, and non-evaluative. Its purpose is to build confidence, strengthen practice, and support capacity building across the division. It is not intended to supervise or evaluate individual performance.
